South African Afro-Tech Titan Shimza To Headline March 10, At HERE [Outernet]

Shimza is an iconic figure in the South African music scene and a pioneer at the forefront of AfroTech across the continent and the wider diaspora. Born in Tembisa with a charismatic personality and infectious DJ style he electrifies everything he comes into contact with. Nothing more so than his record label and brand Kunye.

Kunye which means Together was built to connect local and international audiences & artists. Kunye has become a household name through its livestreams and subsequent live events, keeping him on the tip of everyone’s tongue. You haven’t partied until you have partied with Shimza.

In 2009, Shimza launched his philanthropic One Man Show (OMS) to raise funds for underprivileged children. The OMS shows have become a staple, drawing in over 25,000 people each year with the inclusion of some of the country’s hottest artists, including AKA, Black Coffee, Black Motion, Cassper Nyovest, Riky Rick and many more. OMS has been delivered to European audiences in Portugal, Spain and France.

During lockdown, he launched what would become the most successful entertainment brand on Channel O: “The Lockdown House Party” which was seen by a half-million viewers each week. Shimza is also a critically lauded producer, with his hit song ‘Uwrongo’ making it into Obama’s favourites list of 2020. He has had releases on Knee Deep In Sound, Cadenza, Universal Music and on his own Kunye Records.

Shimza’s name is synonymous with quality, with mixes on the likes of BBC Radio 1, artist features and editorials on Billboard, Mixmag, Dancing Astronaut and a cover feature on DJ Mag the world knows his name. His live performances on the Mixmag Labs, Boiler Room, Kunye and his own historic OMS Mandela Day livestream from Robben Island, where he was the first artist to perform on the island ever, the power of his music has reached the ears of millions. Shimza’s star continues to rise with no line on the horizon.

Following his sold-out KUNYE event back in April 2022, South Africa’s shining star Shimza returns to London for his debut headline show. Teaming up with Parable and AEG, Shimza will take over London’s hottest new events space – HERE at Outernet on Friday, 10 March, 2023.

Shimza has chartered releases via some of the most authoritative labels, such as Cadenza, Knee Deep In Sound, Embassy One, and has released music from global stars including Louie Vega and Floyd Lavine on his own label. Launching his KUNYE imprint in 2020, the platform provides a bridge between South African talent and the global music scene, connecting them to international artists and audiences as one musical family, while celebrating their rich musical heritage.
