Peel the Layers: Amtrac at The Lower Third – A Sonic Odyssey to Remember

Renowned multi-instrumentalist, producer, and songwriter, Caleb Cornett, known to the world as AMTRAC, is tuning his machines and dusting off his vinyl to grace the stage at The Lower Third.

Having released his highly-anticipated third album, ‘Extra Time,’ earlier this year, the “Genre-Defying Melody Man” as hailed by Billboard, is about to create an aural spectacle like no other. The album, which sees inspiration from the unusual landscape of 2020’s lockdown, is a 13-track auditory odyssey, the sound equivalent of an IMAX experience.

It was during this time of universal uncertainty that Cornett found a unique musical language, expressing the ebb and flow of emotions, uncertainties, and anxieties, ending on a note of surreal hope. As he said, “I made this record to encompass what I was feeling during the times of uncertainty in the world… I’m hoping to create the feeling of when you left the movie theatre as a child and just saw something that made you think differently.”

Drawing upon influences ranging from classic 90s video game music to the jazz scapes of Miles Davis, Stanley Turrentine, and modern electronic pioneers like Bonobo and Dan Snaith, ‘Extra Time’ is a masterclass in the evolution of electronic music.

Prepare for the atmospheric melodies of kickoff track “Heard Me Right,” and the thrilling interplay of vocals from artists such as Reva Devito and Future Islands’ Samuel T. Herring on “Contrast” and “Domino” respectively. This journey culminates in a climactic explosion of layered synths in the track “Dancing With You”.
